Boys and their toys: SunCalc

Sun calculator

I recently received an email from Burpee on new garden gear. One of the items highlighted was something called the "SunCalc". Now I tend to love gizmos so this one caught my eye. Essentially this device sits in your yard and analyzes the amount of sunlight in that area -- and gives you a report at the end of the day.

Needless to say, I own one -- and it's very useful. I set it out in the country garden area and assumed that it would show that it was a "full sunlight" area. At the end of the day, when I recovered it, the SunCalc showed that it was only a "partial sun" area. Which may explain some of my issues in growing. But now I will check the sunlight in other areas. It's not the first tool in the garden gear but if you are one who analyzes soil -- then the SunCalc is something you'd want.

Well, who knew there was such a gadget? I don't have one of those but I found out another way that I don't have nearly as much sun as I thought either. I put a solar fountain in a little pond that I assumed got decent sunlight. Wrong! On weekends when I'm home I have to move the small solar panel constantly. Guess I should've used a SunCalc first.
