Circle of life

Circle of life

Two quick events this morning: a black-capped chickadee swooped across the yard and lit on the low branch facing the birdhouse. It hopped around a bit on the branch, checking the surroundings. And then it flew directly to the birdhouse and entered it.

The same birdhouse that was torn off its post a few days before. The same birdhouse that housed a nesting chickadee. Now is a home again for a new effort.

Meanwhile, across the yard a streak of red fur flashed by. The fur skittered about the yard as if it were on a hot skillet. As I took the photo of the birdhouse, the fur raced up a tree to catch a look at what I was doing.

A new visitor: a red squirrel. I usually have big, fat gray squirrels and occasionally a black squirrel in the yard. But this one was new.

The birdhouse is cool attracting new birds for you after its destruction off the post.
